November 20 is one of the major celebrations in Vietnam. Vietnamese Teachers' Day is held to honor and thank the teachers who have taught and guided us to become good people. What day is November 20?

According to the calendar, Vietnamese Teachers' Day November 20, 2022 will fall on Sunday, November 20, 2022 of the solar calendar (on October 27, 2022 of the lunar calendar). So it's been 40 years of celebrating Vietnamese Teachers' Day from November 20, 1982 - November 20, 2022.

Origin of November 20

In July 1946, an organization of progressive educators around the world was established in Paris (France), named the International Federation of Educational Unions (FISE).

By 1949, FISE had developed a Charter for Teachers at the Warsaw conference in the Polish capital.

In July 1953, the Vietnam Education Union joined the International Federation of Education Unions (FISE).

In August 1954, this organization agreed to adopt the Teachers' Charter with the main content to fight against outdated, anti-scientific and anti-democratic educational methods and views; protect the legitimate rights of teachers, fight against abusive regimes, and disregard for the teaching profession...

From August 26-30, 1975, the 2nd International Conference of Teachers was held in Poland with the participation of 57 countries, including the Vietnam Education Union. The conference agreed to make November 20 the International Day of the Charter of Teachers.

In Vietnam, November 20 was first celebrated in 1958. Then it was held in the liberated areas of the South.

On September 28, 1982, the Council of Ministers (now the Government) issued Decision No. 167-HDBT deciding to take November 20 every year as Vietnamese Teachers' Day.

Meaning of Vietnamese Teachers' Day November 20

Vietnamese Teachers' Day is a commemorative day held every year on November 20. This is considered a traditional festival of the education industry, to honor those working in this industry.

On November 20, generations of students will express their deep gratitude to their teachers with fresh bouquets of flowers, meaningful gifts or best wishes.
